1 Corinthans 6:19-20 – The Message “Or didn’t you realize that your body is a sacred place, the place of the Holy Spirit? Don’t you see that you can’t live however you please, squandering what God paid such a high price for? The physical part of you is not some piece of property belonging to the spiritual part of you. God owns the whole works. So, let people see God in and through your body.”
Happy New Year my brothers and sisters! We made it! A new year full of hope, opportunity, and possibility! I do not make resolutions, but I do set goals! True confessions…I do not do a good job on self-care. I do a really good job of taking care of others but not so much for myself. Every year I start off exercising, eating right, getting the proper amount of rest and then something happens. I ALLOW life to get in the way! Yes, I have to be accountable and responsible for WHAT I DO is not being consistent and following through! It is imperative that we take care of ourselves first. This does not mean be selfish! Self-care means taking GOOD care of the mind, body, and spirit. Remember “God owns the whole works.”
As we are still in the midst of a health and race pandemic, we see the heightened disparities and the affects they produce. We are seeing more and more cases of mental health issues. We are seeing the devasting effects of not being in good health. We are seeing the toll all of this is taking not only in our households, and our communities, but the nation, and throughout the world! So, what’s love gotta’ do with it?
In Mark 12:31 The Message, it says “And here is the second: 'Love others as well as you love yourself.' There is no other commandment that ranks with these." What this means is you need to know what love is and that you are loved. We are to love deeply and unconditionally. Remember God loved us even before Jesus gave Himself to us! If we don’t love ourselves, how can you possibly love someone else! We must show and give ourselves grace. We are to act with compassion and look out for the well-being of ourselves and our neighbors. An old-World War saying, “loose lips sink ships!” We must be intentional with our words and actions! What we say to others and what we say to ourselves. We must forgive ourselves and be forgiving as we deal with the life issues of joy and pain!
As you know this is #StuffValSaid, but what do you say? What are your plans for self-care? Are you willing to be vulnerable? What support do you need? Here are a few things to consider:
• Care – be healthy
• Love – be endearing
• Spirit – be soulful
• Mindful – be conscious
It’s all about love. Self-care is at the center and key and essential to grow, thrive and prosper! Let’s get to the business of taking GOOD care! As best said by Brene Brown “You’re imperfect, and you’re wired for struggle, but YOU ARE WORTHY of love and belong.” Let us get to the business of loving ourselves and taking good care of ourselves! God owns the whole works. Take a walk, read a book, just do something which will bring you joy while naturing your mind, body and soul! Love you!
