Romans 15:13 The Message (MSG) 7-13 So reach out and welcome one another to God’s glory. Jesus did it; now you do it! Jesus, staying true to God’s purposes, reached out in a special way to the Jewish insiders so that the old ancestral promises would come true for them.
Here we are less than 48 hours from Thanksgiving! We’re busy planning the menu for dinner, cleaning the house and just making sure everything is in good order! This season of Thanksgiving is so different from years past. We typically have gathered together with family- blood or bonus family and friends - for big dinners; storytelling (some tall tales being told) and just good old fashion fun (board games, movies and more)! For many of us, it was the only time everyone is gathered in one space with uninterrupted time…no cells phones, tablets, or any other form of technology! This year we are thankful for technology as it may be the only way we will have time to visit or even have dinner together. During the reality of these times, we have learned to be creative!
I’m full! This year has been challenging! In the midst of the noise - the health and race pandemic - have you quieted yourself long enough to hear what God is saying? Have you taken the time to think about what you are REALLY thankful for? God is speaking to us! We all have slowed down just like Shug so soulfully sang “God is trying to tell us something.” In case you forgot the song, here is the link. Remember the scene from the Color Purple at the juke joint on Sunday morning and God moving Shug to reconciliation with her father. This is a season of reconciliation and much more. This year we have suffered immeasurable loss! Loss has touched us all! We have loss family, friends, jobs, and a myriad of other things. Many of us are asking why! It is not to question why but to move through and forward! Let us be grateful for what we have as we have enough! Let us forgive! Let us love one another! Let us be a bright light for someone else! Let us make a joyful noise! Let us bring good tidings of great joy! Let us be ever mindful that all things happen for a reason! More than that God is working ALL THINGS TOGETHER for our good.
As you know this is #StuffValSaid, but what about you? What do you say? What are you thankful for? How do WE share our blessing with others? Here are a few things I would like to suggest:
• Gratitude – always be grateful and thankful
• Humble – do not be arrogant
• Care – to show concern
• Thoughtful – be considerate
Take a listen…here is the link…I just want to thank you Lord! Thank you for the abundant blessing you have bestowed upon me! Thank you for my mama, late father, family, extended family, and friends! Thank you, God, for your awesome wonders! Thank you for food, shelter, clothing, and employment! May God bless, keep and cover you and yours! I love you!
