Unity and Strength

Corinthians 1:1:10 The Message I have a serious concern to bring up with you, my friends, using the authority of Jesus, our Master. I’ll put it as urgently as I can: You must get along with each other. You must learn to be considerate of one another, cultivating a life in common.

How are you doing? I feel I must ask this question as there is so much going on not only in our community but also the nation and the world! We are experiencing trials of those who have done acts of violence toward other human beings, illness, sickness, poverty, unrest, general lack of care for our environment, racism, sexism, oppression, and the list goes on. Many have turned a blind eye to what is going on because they think it does not and will not affect them, but it does! As best articulated by the Temptations in their 1970 song, “Ball of Confusion,” “…People moving out, people moving in…Why, because of the color of their skin…run, run, run but you sure can’t hide…An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth…Vote for me and I’ll set you free…rap on, brother, rap on…” We are living in a ball of confusion! I don’t know about you but I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired!

The time is now my brothers and sisters to come together and use our collective strength to live in unity, love, and peace! We need to need to organize and mobilize to create economic empowerment to grow our communities, create collective impact, and wealth! And yes, we do have the resources to do so! God has gifted each of us with a unique skill and talent! We must each use it for the greater good! Let’s go to work! Let’s do what it takes to build vibrant places to live, work, play and invest! There was a time no so long ago when Black communities thrived not survived! We must move out of this state of chaos and confusion!

As you know this is #StuffValSaid, but what do you say? What is your unique gift and talent? How will you use your gift and talent for the greater good? How will you become your brother’s and sister’s keeper? How will you work to reduce confusion and chaos around you and in the community?

• Unite – to join together

• Strong – to be powerful

• Invest – to devote time

A Swahili proverb “Unity is strength, division is weakness” and an African proverb “Where there is no enemy within, the enemies outside cannot hurt you.” Let’s do this thing together and walk together in divine love and power! Isaiah 54:17 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) “No weapon that is fashioned against you shall prosper, and you shall confute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their vindication from me, says the Lord.” I love you my brothers and sisters! May God bless, keep, and cover you!
