Proverbs 3:27-29 The Message
Never walk away from someone who deserves help; your hand is God’s hand for that person. Don’t tell your neighbor “Maybe some other time” or “Try me tomorrow” when the money’s right there in your pocket. Don’t figure ways of taking advantage of your neighbor when he’s sitting there trusting and unsuspecting.
As a sit in a warm house on a very snowy, cold night, I can’t help but wonder, ponder, and be in great awe marveling on how good God is! Oh, how I have been blessed! The night is frightful! There are many who are unhoused, unfed, and unclothed! Many are not here not because they want to be but because of some situation or decision which was made for them. Have you used the God given power bestowed upon you to make a difference? Are you mindful of the words you use? Are you compassion in your thought, your word, your deed? Spoken, written or simply the words we use in our minds – all words have power! Words do make a difference, as do actions. Is the real power in our words? Our thoughts, words, and actions impact what we manifest in our lives. I would argue our power lies in our words. Words manifest our innermost thoughts. We must be careful with our words. As my late maternal grandfather, James Conyers, would say “words make scars that silent tongues will never heal.” This simply translates in the late Maya Angelou’s quote “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Are you misusing your powerful asset…words?
A kind word as does a gesture goes a long way! Words in their fullest splendor are beautiful and poetic! When is the last time you just admired words? Have you heard the sounds, vibrations, and fluid in the words? Words have so much power and like water can be so very beautiful to watch but can be so very destructive! Our words have the power to destroy and the power to build up! Proverbs 12:6 NIV ‘The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, but the speech of the upright rescues them.” God word has taught us to use our words in a way that shows love and care for all God’s people!
As you know this is #StuffValSaid, but what do you say? Are we using words to build up people or destroy them? Are they filled with hate or love, bitterness or blessing, complaining or compliments, victory or defeat? Here are a few things to consider:
• Care – to show concern
• Embrace – to receive gladly
• Poetic – to have lyric
• Power – to share the gift
Watch what you say! Many are listening...as is God! Choose your words wisely! Speak from your heart not your mind! Love you!
