1 Corinthians 13:13 - The Message
“But for right now, until that completeness, we have three things to do to lead us toward that consummation: Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love.”
We are living in a time of great divide and distain for others! Why is this? Depending on who you ask you will get a multitude of answers. As defined by Dictionary.com, love is verb, “to have love or affection for.” What does it really mean to love? I would say you must love yourself. Loving yourself does not mean to be selfish or to not have dislikes. What does it mean it to love yourself? Many of us, beat ourselves up and we put ourselves last, we are never quite good enough and we expect too much of ourselves. This is and much more, is the opposite of self-love. Love is a journey not a destination. Be self-aware! Watch the negative self-talk, feelings, thoughts and behaviors! Loving yourself opens the door to loving other no matter their race, gender, sexual orientation, or political views. Part of love is accepting people as they are but valuing what they bring to the table! We all know love is a great feeling, a source of life. God loves us and wants the best for us! We all deserve the gift of love!
I LOVE music! I have been humming all week Lionel Richie’s Love Will Conquer All! In the lyrics he shares in the chorus:
Here we are Out here, me and you Reaching out to each other Is all that we can do Here we stand trying not to fall There's no need to worry Love will conquer all
Here is the link for you to listen to the whole songwww.youtube.com/watch?v=BTeSOLqJDew. No matter what the outcome of the election we must keep loving and moving through! We are all in this together! We must exercise our power, our love for self, our love of others to continue to the work of those who have gone before us such as the late John Lewis, the late Ruth Bader Ginsberg, the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the late Frankie Muse Freeman, the late Margaret Bush Wilson, and those still here fighting the good fight such as Angela Davis, Farrakhan, Bishop Michael Curry, and many, many others. As my coach, friend, mentor, cheerleader the late Frankie Muse Freeman would at the end of every conversation we would have “there is still much work to be done, I love you and you can do this.” “This” is different for each of us! As best said by Nike, “Just Do It.”
How do we honor our legacy through love? Here are a few things I would like to suggest:
• Pray – for all that is and all that can be, and all things hoped for
• Hope – things can and will be better
• Love – your neighbor as yourself and like there is no tomorrow
• Empower – those who seeking guidance and help
• Encourage – those who may need a little something to get through
We can do this whatever this is or will be! Hate and disdain must be eradicated! It’s all about love! The time is now! I Love you!
